The Other Shore

POTENTIAL — JŪRA ELENA ŠEDYTĖ

Potential is an interdisciplinary project initiated by composer and performer Jūra Elena Šedytė, exploring the female body, bodily autonomy and reproductive rights in Lithuania. The project focuses on abortion and examines how legal, political and moral frameworks shape individual decisions, public discourse and social attitudes.

The music performance explores the mythology of the pregnant woman, the figure of the antiheroine, and the social pressure that can turn a personal decision into an imposed necessity. It examines propagandistic narratives and moral judgments that often overshadow the human rights dimension of abortion.

Jūra Elena Šedytė combines fragments of legal and documentary texts with voice, songs, electronic sound, movement and costume, turning them into a continuous performative structure. Drawing on alternative music, R&B, spoken word and art-pop, the work moves between a solo performance, musical theatre, documentary, game and protest.

Through absurdity, irony, tension and release, POTENTIAL gives voice to experiences and situations that are often silenced in society. The performance also incorporates texts developed during creative writing workshops connected to the project.

AMAR PRIGANICA WITH ISIDORA BULATOVIĆ

Conceived specifically for the Glaubenskirche, Amar Priganica’s programme combines adaptations of existing compositions with a series of shorter new works responding to the church organ, its architecture and acoustic character. Moving between organ and electric guitar, Priganica explores shifting instrumental textures and resonances throughout the space. Two cello works performed by guest musician Isidora Bulatović are woven into the programme, creating moments of transition between its different sonic constellations.

HEKLA

Hekla is an Icelandic theremin player, composer and vocalist. Through her distinctive use of the theremin, she creates a spectral sound world of rarefied melodies, whispering overtones and deep, resonant bass. Moving between modern classical music, ambient and experimental sound art, her compositions intertwine the instrument’s wailing, otherworldly tones with restrained vocal layers. Rooted in the dark and magical atmosphere of Icelandic folklore, Hekla’s music oscillates between fragility and intensity.

NEW CHOIR

New Choir is a contemporary, transdisciplinary and international vocal ensemble based in Vienna. Reinterpreting sacred and secular musical traditions, the collective brings choral music into unexpected spaces and contexts, returning it to its roots in the ground, the body and the breath. New Choir approaches singing as a communal practice and an ever-evolving ritual. Founded in 2023, the ensemble is under the artistic and musical direction of Pavel Naydenov and has collaborated with Wien Modern, WIENWOCHE and Sägezahn.

ARTIST BACKGROUNDS

Jūra Elena Šedytė (she/her) is a Lithuanian composer, performer and curator working across electroacoustic and vocal music, performance art and collective artistic practices. Her work is grounded in an interdisciplinary approach, improvisation, and the intersections between contemporary and improvisational music. Her recent creative projects explore bodily autonomy, reproductive rights, mental wellbeing, activism and questions of feminine identity.

Amar Priganica is a Vienna-based composer, guitarist and organist. Drawing on sacred musical idioms and the systematic layering of sonic material, his work creates dense textures, harmonic shifts and psychoacoustic effects that oscillate between intimacy and abundance. In his doctoral research at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, he investigates the invasive and transformative potential of sound across a field extending from sono-liturgical structures to contemporary electroacoustic music. Priganica writes solo and ensemble works and composes for theatre and film.
