Prelude
Excursion to Kritzendorf
In their performative concerts, the sisters Daphne and Oneka von Schrader create dreamlike realities that straddle the line between sound art and artistic-scientific research. Organ Songs focuses on those (hollow) organs in the body through which water is channelled, filtered, or retained: the stomach, bladder, and kidneys. As internal cavities, these organic worlds are translated into acoustic resonances, songs, and texts. Singing for the organs, and conversely, singing with the organs, gives rise to a unique experimental vocal practice.
The event is part of the exhibition walking frames and the conditions of a flirt by Daphne von Schrader at Medienwerkstatt Wien. The programme moves from the exhibition along the Danube to Kritzendorf.
SCHRADER_SCHRADER
The sisters Daphne & Oneka von Schrader draw on their respective backgrounds in performance and media art to create sculptural sound objects and performative formats. At the same time, they conduct artistic and scientific research on the microbiome and its connections to inflammatory processes in the body. Their performances revolve around chronic illnesses, bacteria in the urogenital tract and intestines, inflamed organs such as the bladder, and strategies for self-care and supplement culture. The songs are complemented by interactions with sound instruments they have developed themselves. Since April 2024, they have been performing in art galleries, at noise concerts, and at performance festivals.
