Fluid Transitions – Listening through Movement, Dancing through Thoughts
Workshop with Anna Maria Nowak
The workshop Fluid Transitions – Listening through Movement, Dancing through Thoughts explores the interplay of movement, language, voice, sensation and thought. At its centre is listening as a practice experienced through the body.
Through structured improvisations as well as writing and listening scores, participants explore how we listen to our own bodies, to other people, to space, rhythm and the present moment – and how movement, language and composition can emerge from this listening.
Text becomes physically tangible, and movement becomes a form of expression. Through speaking and moving simultaneously, participants experiment with translating thoughts, emotions and metaphors into bodily and vocal material.
The voice is understood as an extension of the body – as sound, texture and vibration. The workshop invites participants to develop attention and responsiveness, discover individual forms of movement and expression, and deepen their ability to consciously listen to themselves, to others and to their surroundings. Through collective experimentation, new possibilities emerge for bringing movement, language and sound into relation with one another.
The workshop is open to participants of all levels of experience. No previous experience is required.
ANNA MARIA NOWAK
Anna Maria Nowak is a Vienna-based artist whose work moves at the intersection of choreography, language and body-based artistic research. Born in Poland, she studied Scandinavian Studies at the University of Gdańsk and dance at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. Together with Alexander Gottfarb, she founded Archipelago – Verein für Performative Künste and currently co-directs the art space Der Betrieb.
As a long-time artistic collaborator of Liquid Loft / Chris Haring, she explores how bodily experiences shape our thinking, language and perception. Her artistic research focuses on themes including emotion, ageing, framing and metaphor.

- Participation is free of charge.
- Open to all levels of experience. No previous dance or musical experience is required.
